Failure to Launch Syndrome

Struggling with failure to launch? Here are quotes to inspire you to learn how successful personalities overcame and used their fear of failure to their advantage.

It’s not just lack of motivation that leads to failure to launch syndrome. Failure to launch syndrome is interwind with the fear of failure.

When you create something you want it to succeed at all costs. Whether it is your new business or it is your first Chicken Thai curry, your only aim is a success.

You don’t even know how to deal with success?

If you succeed…will you be able to get a handsome profit with minimum cost?

Will you be able to get that authentic Thai curry flavor?

Go out and start your very own Thai restaurant?

The truth is you really don’t know the perfect definition of success. The only thing you know is a success is a positive outcome and failure is a negative outcome. You only know one thing failure is not the outcome you envisage. And this is one of the reasons that lead to the failure to launch syndrome. It is not only about lack of motivation, it is also about how we perceive things.

We deal with this “Negative” outcome in either of the two ways – “Failure is not an option” or “Fail fast, fail often”.

Most of us choose the first scenario – “Failure is not an option” it means the only option we have is to succeed.

Don’t you think this will lead to stress and anxiety? Risk aversion? Playing foul? Playing safe? or the worst you will not even try to do anything and procrastinate. Besides, sometimes you can even outsource your overly cautious good sense and wisdom to services such as those that bind family insurance, and you can see these Family First Life reviews to see how that might work. This grants you peace of mind. You might as well celebrate short-lived and stagnant success. In the long run, be ready to perish.

The other option is “Fail fast, fail often”.  My 2-year-old chubby really understands this very well she builds her “Burj Khalifa” (world’s tallest skyscraper) with blocks and when it falls, she again starts to make it.  Every time she fails she makes it differently and eventually she learned to make a tall tower with her blocks. My job as a parent is to encourage her to make her “Burj Khalifa” without any fear or shame.

She doesn’t even have to face the failure to launch syndrome as she isn’t doing anything to meet the expectations of others. She is doing it for herself.

But as we grow older, we only do things to please others, to get appreciated, or to get “successful” in others’ eyes.

Think about this question – What is your definition of success? What will make you satisfied and feel accomplished? Is it different from what others want from you?

Write it down in your journal!

Failure to launch syndrome

“Learn from failure. If you are an entrepreneur and your first venture wasn’t a success, welcome to the club!”- Richard Branson

Before being the richest person in the world, Bill Gates’ first entrepreneurial venture, Traf-o-data, was a failure.

James Dyson took 5 years and 5126 failed prototypes to make the world’s first bagless vacuum cleaner.

Richard Branson, a billionaire philanthropist and the owner of Virgin Brand, had poor reading and math skills. He proudly admits that he’s dyslexic all his life but it didn’t stop him to become a magnetic media icon. His first venture was a failure too.

What is the most common factor with these success stories? What plays an important role in success? Did they overcome the failure to launch syndrome? Maybe…we all struggle from this. And the solution to this problem lies in acknowledging failure, learning from the mistakes, and most importantly, taking the first step towards our goal.
