What is the biggest relief for a woman who manages everything in the whole universe?

It is the relief of LIVING LIGHTER. Relief of not living in a space full of clutter. And it’s Saturday!

Last week I talked about wardrobe detox and this week I promised to talk about kitchen decluttering. The kitchen is one of those places where we spend most of our time preparing meals, organizing the pantry, and managing appliances. It is also a place where germs can easily enjoy their stay with some sumptuous meals. So, it is extremely important to take out time every 3 months to declutter your kitchen

Here are 5 golden steps to declutter and organize your kitchen.

Steps to Declutter Kitchen

1- Create a mess

Yes! This is the first step to declutter your kitchen. Make your canvas and fill some colors into it. Take out everything from your kitchen cupboards and open all the closets so that fresh air can dance in its rhythm inside it. Wipe the cupboard and spread some sheets so that next time when you do this exercise it is less messy.

2- Get three boxes

Pick up three boxes and label them TRASH, DONATE and SPACE STEALERS

a) Trash

This requires no brain and it is the easiest thing to do. Throw away anything useless, too old and expired. Throw away that old cookie cutter that you can’t let go. Throw away food products that have reached the expiry date but are still conquering the space in your shelf. Throw away anything you haven’t used for last 6 months.

b)Donate

How full are your utensil drawers? I am sure it’s full. This is the best time to decide which utensil you want to donate, keep and throw. Donate food products that you don’t eat but you bought it just for the sake of buying. Yes! We do it most of the time. But remember to check the expiry date before donating any food item.

c)Space stealers

There are few items that not only steal space from your kitchen but also multiply. For example plastic bags, bottles, damaged or old containers that you don’t use. Identify at least 5 of these space stealers and decide their fate.

3- ORGANIZE YOUR KITCHEN SHELF

Once you have segregated your kitchen items, you will be shocked to know how much clutter resided in your kitchen. And you always complained that you have a small kitchen. Huh!

Now, it’s time to keep items as per their usage. Most used items like oil, spices, flour, salt, sugar etc should find their place in the bottom of the shelf so that its reachable. Items that you use once in 3 months should be kept in the upper shelf. You can use the IKEA kitchen solutions to help you organize and upgrade your kitchen.

4- DO IT DAILY

Sweep your counter tops and keep everything back into place. There are few items that never stick to its spot, so try finding a place for such items. Throw garbage daily.
If you love peaceful mornings then wash your dishes before sleeping. This will not only give you a clean kitchen in the morning but also helps you in planning your day more peacefully.

5- DON’T FORGET THE GOLDEN RULE

Here are few golden rules of the organized kitchen.

a) TRASH ANYTHING NOT USED IN LAST SIX MONTHS

b) GIVEAWAY OR DONATE DUPLICATE ITEMS IN THE KITCHEN

c) TAKE INVENTORY OF FOOD STUFF ( HELPS IN MAKING GROCERY LIST)

d) CLEAN KITCHEN CLOTHS EVERY WEEK

e) LOVE FOR CUTLERY IS GOOD BUT DON’T OVERDO IT

These golden rules will make your life a little easier. Cooking your meals and eating will be less stressful if you declutter your kitchen every month or every 3 months. Believe me, we use half the stuff we own. Keep checking on it, you will not only save some money but also some precious space.

Next time, don’t say you have a small kitchen!

Hope you learned how to declutter your space and mind.

Lots of Love

xoxo
