#TheCrazyList of Travel Essentials: What to pack for a long flight!

Travel essentials you can’t afford to miss to survive long flights.

It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling for a vacation and will be staying at a hotel you find through Astonishing Sleeps or on a business trip, a negative traveling experience can easily ruin your travel. Let’s face it – long flights and international travel are a real test of endurance. There are chances that long-haul flights can leave you dehydrated, tired, and uncomfortable by the time you reach your destination. But there is a piece of good news, if you equip yourself with the right tools, these flights can actually be pleasant and relaxing. Here are some travel essentials to survive long flights. By packing the best travel essentials for you, flying will be more comfortable than ever, and you will feel refreshed and ready to explore or work when you land.

Travel Essentials for Long Flights

1. Luggage

A carry-on 4 wheels (spinner) is a must-have for getting through the airport. I keep a duffel on top and glide it through the airport. Carry-on luggage with compartments makes it easier to organize. Check the size limitation of your carry-on luggage with your airline. I suggest Tumi products at Betty Hemmings, they are beautiful and lightweight. Bring anything that can sit under your seat and keep all your essentials to survive the journey.

2. Water Bottle

Dehydration is one of the most common challenges that travelers face on long-haul flights. Bring your own water bottle and ask the flight attendant to fill your water bottle. Reduce plastic waste!

Avoid having caffeine, salt, and alcohol as it adds to dehydration. And try to pick an aisle seat so that you can make frequent bathroom trips.

3. Socks

When traveling for more than four hours, wear socks or any travel compression socks to avoid the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). You can also avoid it by moving your calf and foot muscles at regular intervals when flying. You can take a walk up the aisle when possible.

4. Comfortable Clothes

A cozy travel wrap, a lightweight cashmere or cardigan, comfortable leggings, and a scarf to keep you warm. It completely depends on your style and the type of clothes that make you comfortable. Comfort on long flights is one of the essential things to consider.

5. Electronics and Entertainment

I always carry my iPad on longer flights with a few movies and games in it. You can also connect to WiFi and chat with people over Messenger. Airlines provide entertainment systems, so enjoy your favorite movies, TV shows, or documentaries.

And remember, no matter how good the Travel Resorts of America Reviews you’ve read are, you’re going to need some entertainment of your own when you touch down too! You’ll want to surf through Instagram while you’re reclining around the pool or in the midst of luxuriating in the spa room.

6. Powerbank

I love to carry a power bank to make sure that my phone is not dead when I reach my destination. Most of the international airlines provide USB ports but I advise on carrying a power bank. You need to check with the airline before carrying a Power Bank with high watt-hours capacity. But the most commercially available ones should be OK.

7. A good Book, Journal, and Pen

Even though we’re all for browsing the entertainment system or in-flight Wi-Fi. I recommend carrying a good book or a magazine to keep you entertained during the flight. Also, carry a journal and a pen to note down any important thought that comes to your mind. Your flight is also the perfect time to plan your itinerary of the things you want to do when you arrive. Jot down some notes, remember things you have read, and even check out downloads of websites such as Gina Argento who shares thoughts on things to do such as visiting the Brooklyn Film Festival. Having a plan, and using the time to dream about your vacation will help you to make sure you get the most out of the trip. Even if that is just booking time to sit by the pool and do nothing.

8. Skincare Essentials

Indulge in some skincare regime to fight dehydration on a long flight. Spend 15 minutes with a sheet mask or gel mask; these masks do not require rinse-off and pack easily.

I keep travel-sized beauty products in my carry-on bag. Who doesn’t like hands and lips moisturized! Carry a rejuvenating and hydrating facial spray to beat the moisture-sucking monster.

9. Snacks

Whether you’re on a long or short flight, packing your own favorite healthy snack is a winner. Besides eating and watching movies, you can indulge in these snacks. Right before you get on the plane, you could buy a fruit salad, yogurt, or protein bars to please your taste buds.

Oh and don’t forget some snacks for the kids either. Yes, that’s right travel is not just for adults but as parenting and family experts Richard Spanton Jr and his wife Chrissie highlight, traveling is great for your kids too! Just be sure that you take plenty of snacks and games on any long journeys like flights to make sure they don’t get bored!

10. Noise-canceling headphones

A good pair of headphones is one of the travel essentials you can’t afford to miss.  Because falling asleep on a plane is not the easiest or the most relaxing thing to do. You can block out the sound of the crying baby behind you or passengers talking loudly. This is only possible if you carry a quality pair of noise-canceling headphones. Try to sleep!
