#TheCrazyList: What to pack for a long flight!
It doesn’t matter you’re traveling for a vacation or on a business trip, a negative traveling experience can easily ruin your travel. Let’s face it – long flights and international travel are a real test of endurance. There are chances that long-haul flights can leave you dehydrated, tired and uncomfortable by the time you reach your destination. But there is a good news if you equip yourself with the right tools, these flights can actually be pleasant and relaxing. Here are some travel essentials to survive long flights.
A carry-on 4 wheels (spinner) is a must-have for getting through the airport. I keep a duffel on top and glide it through the airport. Carry-on luggage with compartments makes it easier to organize. Check the size limitation of your carry-on luggage with your airline. I suggest Tumi products at Betty Hemmings, they are beautiful and lightweight. Bring anything that can sit under your seat and keep all your essentials to survive the journey.
2. Water Bottle
Dehydration is one of the most common challenges that travelers face on long-haul flights. Bring your own water bottle and ask the flight attendant to fill your water bottle. Reduce plastic waste!
Avoid having caffeine, salt, and alcohol as it adds to dehydration. And try to pick an aisle seat so that you can make frequent bathroom trips.
When traveling for more than four hours, wear socks or any travel compression socks to avoid the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). You can also avoid it by moving your calf and foot muscles at regular intervals when flying. You can take a walk up the aisle when possible.
4. Comfortable Clothes
A cozy travel wrap, a lightweight cashmere or cardigan, comfortable leggings, and scarf to keep you warm. It completely depends on your style and type of clothes that make you comfortable. Comfort on long flights is one of the essential things to consider.
5. Electronics and Entertainment
I always carry my iPad on longer flights with a few movies and games in it. You can also connect WiFi and chat with people over messenger. Airlines provide entertainment systems, enjoy your favorite movies, tv shows or documentaries.
I love to carry a power bank to make sure that my phone is not dead when I reach my destination. Most of the international airlines provide USB ports but I advise on carrying a power bank. You need to check with the airline before carrying a Power Bank with high watt-hours capacity. But most commercially available ones should be OK.
7. A good Book, Journal, and Pen
Even though we’re all for browsing the entertainment system or in-flight Wi-Fi. I recommend carrying a good book or a magazine to keep you entertained during the flight. Also, carry a journal and a pen to note down any important thought that comes to your mind.
8. Skincare Essentials
Indulge in some skincare regime to fight dehydration on a long flight. Spend 15 minutes with a sheet mask or gel mask; these masks do not require rinse-off and pack easily.
I keep travel-sized beauty products in my carry-on bag. Who doesn’t like hands and lips moisturized! Carry a rejuvenating and hydrating facial spray to beat the moisture-sucking monster.
Whether you’re on a long or short flight, packing your own favorite healthy snack is a winner. Besides eating and watching movies, you can indulge in these snacks. Right before you get on the plane, you could buy a fruit salad, yogurt or protein bars to please your taste buds.
10. Noise-canceling headphones
A good pair of headphones is one of the travel essentials you can’t afford to miss. Because falling asleep on a plane is not the easiest or the most relaxing thing to do. You can block out the sound of the crying baby behind you or passengers talking loudly. This is only possible if you carry a quality pair of noise-canceling headphones. Try to sleep!

Long flights can be very hectic if one never prepared for them well. And yes, all these are essentials since I can never miss water and snacks while on any journey. A good book is also always there to keep me company. It can be very awesome to read a nice book on a long flight!

You definitely need to have an arsenal of little things packed away in your bag for long flights! There are quite a few things i wouldn’t have thought of, great ideas!! I didn’t know we could bring fascial spray! That is a must need! Also, bringing your own water bottle for the stewardess to fill is a great way to avoid paying for expensive water at the airport. Thanks!
A travel-size facial spray can instantly refresh you. Thanks…I am glad that you liked the post!
Water is the big one for me. I get SO dehydrated when I fly, I always end up with really dry skin and a headache!
It is so important to hydrate yourself, especially on long flights! Thanks 🙂
I would add as well a small but firm pillow but the rest is exactly what I will be taking on my next flight. Thanks for making a list for me ❤️

I love your list and I think you really covered all the essentials at least the ones I always have for long flights! I always keep my power bank with me all the time!
Who wants a dead phone/device after a long flight! Power bank is a must have… 🙂
Those are some great tips to make sure you have a good flight ahead of you. It’s really nice that you mentioned bringing your own water bottle because flights usually use plastic cups. It’s good to reduce waste as much as we can.
Yes, I think we can contribute to reducing some plastic waste. Thanks…I am glad that you liked the post.
Ban On ! I had all of these, just was missing noise cancelling headphones, which I have recently ordered from Bosch and I’m crazy to use them soon!

Snacks and a hydrating facial mist are my must haves whenever I’m on a flight, long haul or not! I also love a sheet mask too!

I really hate long haul flight as I get bored easily. Anything that makes them more bearable is a bonus. I find hydrating mist is a really good idea to help feel refreshed.
Hydrating Mist refreshes you instantly plus it gives you beautiful glow too 🙂
I hate fighting with a passion. I cry over every bump and I breathe heavily throughout taking off and landing. One of the things that’s helped me is my smart phone where I can read books on kindle.
Ohhhh! That’s sad but I am glad that Smartphone distracts you from take-off and landing.:)
I love long flights and will fly soon from Germany to Thailand. Your post have some good information, thank you for sharing!
That’s awesome! I wish you have an amazing trip 🙂
This is a really useful list of things to pack on your carry on bag. I always pack a travel pillow for those instances when you can’t get a window seat.
Thanks…I am glad that you liked the post! 🙂
You literally hit the nail on the head. Snacks are huge for me since they charge for them now and I am always cold, so an extra sweater helps!
And they charge too much for a small portion of snacks. I am glad that you liked the post. Thanks 😉
I have been on some really long flights! These items are so great for flying. I had never thought to bring socks – so simple, but I love to take off my shoes, so socks would be handy! 🙂
Even I take off my shoes, a good pair of socks is the savior. Thanks 🙂
Those are some much needed things. For me, comfortable clothes is the first thing to look out for following my playlist, headphones and power bank. Will share it with my friends too!
That’s great! Thanks 🙂
that’s a great checklist ! I need to save this for future reference because I always tend to forget some of the items at home , like the power bank and I have all mu books stored in my phone
